Darren is currently serving as a Presbyter Minister in the Plymouth & Devonport Methodist Circuit. Darren has a varied past - Ballet Dancer, West End Performer, before answering the call to serve God in the Methodist Church.
Darren's first appointment was in Cardiff serving primarily in Fairwater, Conway Road, St Andrews, and Cathays Methodist Churches. Darren also worked alongside Rev Monica Mills at the Lightship as a fellow Chaplain. Darren also served as chaplain to the George Thomas Hospice Care Centre in the last year of his appointment before joining the Royal Army Chaplains Department in 2013. Darren served for six years (2013 - 2019) as an Army Chaplain with 1st Royal Horse Artillery Regiment and the 29 Commando Regiment - Royal Artillery in Plymouth. Darren was the first serving British Army Chaplain to successfully complete the All Arms Commando Course at CTCRM Lympstone (2017) - receiving his green beret at the age of 44yrs.
Currently Darren is involved in Pioneering Ministry within the Methodist Church - looking at creating a Christian Faith Community around a hair salon. Since lockdown, Darren has been training as a hairdresser. Now fully qualified, Darren is excited about how we can meet people where they are and join them on their spiritual journey with God.
Darren's spirituality has journeyed through Franciscan and Ignatian practices. During his 2021 Sabbatical Darren looked at the spiritual practices of the Desert Mothers and Fathers and those of the Christian Mystics such as Julian of Norwich, Teresa of Avila, and Thomas Merton.
Prayer is not something we say, it is something we live. Exploring the Lord's Prayer in Aramaic is a transformative experience. Join Reverend Darren Middleton, a Methodist Presbyter in the Plymouth & Devonport Methodist Circuit, as he leads an informative and contemplative session unpacking the depth and meaning of the original language used by Jesus when instructing his disciples in prayer.
