Title: Is there a Welsh Anglican Spirituality?
Is there anything unique and special about Welsh Anglican spirituality? Recently I've become excited about the distinct themes that I've recognised running through the spirituality at the foundation of this festival of prayer. These themes have roots that run deep in Welsh history, sometimes as far back as in the theology of the early Celtic Christians. They are also, perhaps more surprisingly, reflected in the Wales of recent years, from the tragedy at Aberfan to the formation of the Welsh Senedd. In this talk, through reflecting on poetry and theology, I will take us on a journey exploring this distinct spirituality and revealing how it has fed and sustained both the Church and individual Christians down the years. Far from being of merely isolated relevance, this talk will show that Welsh Anglican spiritual thinking and writing has shaped so many lives in Wales and beyond and has had a profound influence on other Welsh denominations, on the wider Anglican Communion, and on Wales as a nation.
The maximum number of participants in each workshop is limited so please book early to avoid disappointment.
